As it seeks to boost the Bitcoin network, the crypto arm of Square (now Block), has shown its Lightning Development Kit (LDK).
Jack Dorsey’s Spiral released a Dec. 7 video that showcased the capabilities of Bitcoin Lightning (LDK) and the team at Jack Dorsey’s Spiral.
LDK was created to enable developers to seamlessly integrate their applications with the network via mobile devices and Point of Sale terminals.
LDK supports native APIs that use Rust, C Swift, Java, and Kotlin coding language. Developers can customize their wallet apps in the language they prefer, without the need to create separate Bitcoin or LN wallets.
The video features Twitter’s former CEO describing the LDK program as a program that makes it “easy for any developer in this world to create a wallet.”
A short documentary was made about Lightning Development Kit, the big project we’ve been working on these past few years. We wanted a puppet to perform @jack’s parts but settled for actual @jack: https://t.co/q6eW4PDuNW
December 6, 2021 — Spiral (@spiralbtc).
This video shows Jack Dorsey, a puppet, interacting with shop clerks and owners as he pays for services using Lightning Network (LN). The video cuts to Jack Dorsey talking about Bitcoin and LN.
Spiral, formerly Square Crypto, has been creating Bitcoin wallet solutions ever since it was established in 2019. Spiral, formerly Square Crypto, is currently working on the Bitcoin Development Kit that allows cross-platform mobile wallet interactions.
Lightning is a layer 2 scaling solution for Bitcoin, which Haley Berkoe, Spiral project manager, says “turns Bitcoin in to an actual payment system.”
Spiral’s Conor Okus hopes that its LDK will increase adoption of Bitcoin and LN. He says it “provides a way for people from different parts of the globe… to store and engage in economic activity.”

Lightning users are fortunate that the product release occurs at an ideal time, as network nodes have reached all-time highs. According to Bitcoin Visuals, there are now 18,905 active channels on Lightning Network.
The number of nodes has increased by 23% over the past 3 months with 3,534 new nodes added. According to 1ML, the LN has a current network capacity of 3,285 BTC or approximately $166 million.
