The crypto winter is upon us. Although it is a difficult time with falling prices, it’s also the best time to learn and build. The bear market can be a good time to create memes or plant trees for some Bitcoiners. It’s a time to bring your children along, and it’s a chance to expand the minds of Bitcoin (BTC), minors.
Cointelegraph spoke with the creators of Bitcoin-related educational tools and games to learn why teaching children about sound money is important and the best ways to do so.
SHAmory is a combination of SHA-256 (the cryptographic function which hashes inputs into Bitcoin) and memory. It is one of the most popular Bitcoin games. Scott Sibley, the creator of SHAmory, shared with us that the game was created for children aged 4 and up.

Sibley’s wife, Sibley, also created Goodnight Bitcoin as part of a growing collection of books about Bitcoin. Cointelegraph spoke with Sibley, a passionate educator who said that breaking the taboo on money and teaching children about finance are crucial.
“Financial education is something kids won’t get in traditional schools, particularly if it includes Bitcoin. It’s up to bitcoin parents to find ways that they can incorporate this education at home.
Sibley said that children should be able to see, interact with and recognize the “Bitcoin” logo or “play our game and then ask how Bitcoin mining works.” This is crucial for long-term adoption. The Gen-Z generation, also known as the Zoomer generation, has an advantage in understanding digital products. “Transacting with Bitcoin is no different from buying a skin or level in a videogame they are currently playing.”
Will Reeves is the co-founder and co-founder of Fold App, a Bitcoin rewards debitcard. He also co-founded the Bitcoin gaming game Bitopoly. Reeves said that the “first version of Bitopoly” was born out of a conversation at a dinner table, in which he and his wife were trying to teach family members and friends about Bitcoin.
“Games are a great way to help people understand complex concepts by ‘experiencing it’ rather than being ‘taught. This role has been played by humans throughout history. It helps people understand on their own terms.
Reeves shared the same sentiments as Sibley and said that teaching children is the best way to adopt Bitcoin, especially if they don’t have any preconceived notions.
He said that children don’t approach Bitcoin with preconceived notions. They are able to grasp it more quickly and with less resistance against their biases.
Bitcoin is a game. To encourage people to actually play the actual game, we made a game about it. Bitopoly is the name of this game. It has everything: Wrench attacks and margin calls, mine farms, boating accidents, proof of keys, and even proof of keys. Reeves stated that Bitcoin requires that people “unlearn” their old ideas and beliefs about money. This may be true for adults.
MTC, Sats Ledger’s founder, said to Cointelegraph that he wanted to share Robert Breedlove, and other Bitcoiners, with his family. He is a Bitcoin advocate and freedom maximalist and knows that no five-year old would listen to a Breedlove podcast for one hour that waxes lyrical on sound money, libertarian first principle and the evolution and tax system.
MTC thought back to his childhood and how he saved money. He recalled the books he kept, which he meticulously filled out, as he watched his wealth grow. Sats Ledger was born when MTC realized that kids don’t like being cheated.
MTC stated that Sats Ledger was a fun and physical savings book for children to track their Satoshi savings. Money that “nobody can steal from them,” MTC added.

Sats Ledger helps children learn about Bitcoin and money. They also learn how to HODL with a low time preference. MTC stated to Cointelegraph that if you encourage children to save money, it will help them understand sound money and Bitcoin.
Pigtoshi Nakamoto is another child saver who has created a Bitcoin version of the most popular childhood saving device, the piggy bank. OpenDime is a Bitcoin USB stick that allows users to use Bitcoin-like dollar bills. The BitPiggy can be used to teach children how to save money in Bitcoin.

Cointelegraph’s Pigtoshi said, “I knew early on that if you save early in your life it will make things easier later.” Particularly when you are young. It’s when your youth is when you can achieve your goals.” Since then, they have partnered with Sibley of SHAmory to bring you more toys and games.
The United Kingdom’s Bitcoiner Coach Carbon took the “beautiful” game of soccer and combined it to create Satoshi Nakamoto. Coach Carbon, a life-long soccer fan and coach, founded Bitcoin Ballers academy. The school allows kids to learn how to “proof-of work, personal responsibility, and fight the FUD in a footballing adventure.”
A post by Coach Carbon’s BitcoinBallers on Instagram.
Bitcoin Ballers’ soccer training exercises include “51% Attack”, a game called “getting of zero”, and difficulty adjustments in certain exercises, where defenders or the pitch size are boxed-in. Coach Carbon believes that it is not about Bitcoin promotion only.
“The most important thing is to understand what money is. It’s not just currency. This question isn’t asked enough. If it’s not discussed in schools, then where will people learn about it?
Fundamentally, given that the Bitcoin network is barely a teenager — just two countries out of a possible 195 have formally adopted Bitcoin — and global adoption rates sit at less than 1%, “hyper-Bitcoinization” (when Bitcoin becomes the global store of value), is a distant prospect. The educators said that exposure to Bitcoin at a young age is a small step in the right direction.

Unexpectedly, educating children about sound currency can have a positive impact on their parents. Reeves concluded, “Teaching children Bitcoin is one of most effective strategies to accelerate the adoption of Bitcoin.”
Sibley believes that games, books and educational tools are “a stealth method of orange-pilling people,” particularly the parents.
