AMC Entertainment is updating its technical infrastructure in order to enable consumers to pay online using Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum(ETH), Litecoin [LTC], and Dogecoin (“DOGE”) for movie tickets. It doesn’t end there. Adam Aron, CEO of the company, posted a tweet early Friday morning asking if anyone would be interested in Shiba Inu payments. The poll was completed by 97,582 Twitter users at the time of writing. Approximately 85% of respondents chose “Yes”
As of late, the iconic theatre chain has been interested in cryptocurrency. The CEO of AMC discussed last week the possibility to issue a company-specific cryptocurrency. AMC’s customers were able to buy digital gift cards using Dogecoin or other cryptocurrency via the BitPay wallet earlier this month. Aron mentioned in September that he was interested in minting commemorative movie ticket tokens as non-fungible tokens (or NFTs) during a CNBC interview.
ShibaInu took Dogecoin’s place as the ninth-largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization on Friday. Etherscan reports that the daily Shiba Inu transaction volume has exceeded 140,000. This is just shy of the May record of 172,411 daily transactions.
In response to a record-breaking run, the Shiba Inu ecosystem expanded to include ShibaSwap (a decentralized exchange or DEX). Based on data from DefiLama, the total value locked (TVL) on ShibaSwap is $537.92million. According to CoinGecko, there are 29 coins currently listed on ShibaSwap. $236 million worth has changed hands in the last 24 hours. ShibaSwap has two additional tokens, Shiba Inu as its foundational token. Bone ShibaSwap can be used to vote for governance protocols that are proposed by developers. Doge Killer provides trading liquidity on the DEX.
